The Death of General Wolfe by Benjamin West

Canada in Kent

Westerham, Kent

To celebrate Canada Day*, the Kent Invicta Encampment has organized an informal visit to Westerham, home of General James Wolfe, victor of the pivotal 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham, which ensured that Canada would become part of the British Empire.

We'll visit the statue of General Wolfe in the centre of the village, followed by lunch in a local hostelry. We will then be visiting Wolfe's childhood home, Quebec House. This is the centenary of Quebec House becoming a National Trust property, so this year may be a good time to visit.

The event is 'self funding' - individuals pay for what they use. Entry to Quebec House costs £5.60 (free to National Trust members). Please contact the Grand Scrivener if you would like to attend.

* Canada Day is actually Sunday 1 June, but we are celebrating the day before.
