Royal Centre for Defence Medicine
The Order supports the work of the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. Army, RAF, and Navy nurses work within the unit and throughout the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBFT) - formerly the Selly Oak National Health Service Trust Hospital. RCDM was opened in 2001 by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal.
The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine's Clinical Unit based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) is the primary receiving unit for all military patients from overseas. In addition to operational casualties they accept non-operational casualties from around the world and military referrals from Wales and the West Midlands Region.
