From 1945-1963 2.2 million men in the United Kingdom were called up to do their National Service. Nearly 1000 never came home.
Today, these veterans are almost forgotten. There are only 6 plaques dedicated to remembering National Servicemen lost while on duty.
We’ve been contacted by Michael Homer, of the National Service Veterans’ Alliance, who has asked members of the Order to support them in their campaign to put up more memorial plaques to commemorate the sacrifice of our National Servicemen. You can see the Alliance’s video here.
Some of the veterans in Mike’s group were part of the Queens Royal Regiment (West Surrey) amongst others, which became part of our affiliated regiment, PWRR.
