On Friday 22 May, in the heart of historic Guildford, and in the presence of Cllr Jane Tyson (Mayor of Guildford) and Dr Sylvie Edwards (UK Grand Prior) the South East Commandery held its Annual Dinner, hosted by Nick Hinchliffe (Commander of the SE Commandery).
Around 30 members and guests gathered at the Cosy Club for pre-dinner drinks before the UK Grand Prior, the Mayor of Guildford and the Commander of the SE Commandery were processed into the dining room for dinner.
After the meal, the Mayor of Guildford rose to tell us a little of her background and her journey to becoming mayor. Then the UK Grand Priory rose and gave an inspiring speech about her vision for the Order, at the conclusion of which she was given a framed box of all her official regalia. Then came the presentations: first, the brevet to the SE Commandery confirming its existence which was received by Nick Hinchliffe. Second, there was a presentation of a brevet to Nick himself confirming his appointment as Commander. Third, a brevet and jewel to Mr Ray Talbot as a new Officer in the Order and finally a brevet and jewel to the Mayor as an honorary member of the Order.
Following the toasts, there was a raffle (with guaranteed prizes kindly donated by Nick Hinchliffe for all those who participated) which raised almost £650 for the SE Commandery.
At the conclusion of the evening, there was an opportunity for more drinks and chat in the bar.
Everyone concluded that the evening was a success and look forward to the next one in 2027!
